Great ways To Enhance Your Personal Development

Great Ways To Enhance Your Personal Development

It is a good idea to focus some of your attention to your own personal development. From developing a healthier lifestyle, to developing better spending habits. Doing some work on yourself will simply make you happier. You never really stop developing as a person because you constantly evolve and times change, so there are always areas in your life you can improve on. Through personal development you will be able to lead a happier and healthier life.

Compliment other people. Being nice to others will help you learn to be nicer to yourself.

Do not be afraid to take risks in the pursuit of happiness. Being a little too risk-averse carries its own dangers, because someone who avoids failure or rejection at all costs can wind up feeling safe, but unsatisfied. Taking risks can lead you to the things you want out of life, which will bring you the most happiness.

Your unique and individual values can help to mold a productive personal development plan. It makes no sense to concentrate on things that are at odds with what you value. So instead, you should spend your efforts on things in your life that match up with your values. Changes to your life, in the personal or professional spheres, will be easier to make permanent when they reflect your ideals.

To be an effective leader, you must combine humility with power. There is an element of service that makes up the character of a leader, as it enables them to lead with gentleness. Being a great leader requires that you uphold a standard of integrity and values that others are proud to follow, no matter what the capacity is in which you lead.

Learn to deal with stressful situations without reacting in an emotional way. If you can learn how to stay cool during high-stress situations, you are likely to gain the confidence that you need to conquer just about anything in your daily life. Take some time during your day to stop and take breaths.

It is said that you have two ears and one mouth, because you should listen more than you speak. This is particularly sage advice if you are working on your personal development. Remember to also listen to your own words when you are expressing them. Hearing your own thoughts and feelings when you express them will lead to a better understanding of what you need to improve your life.

Behind every great champion is an equally great coach. Every champion has a great coach; the advice of a knowledgeable mentor is priceless. Teaching others is a critical part of life. Without someone to teach them the right way of doing things, it’s impossible to expect them to be able to properly succeed. Helping other people is a positive way to reach personal development goals.

It may become discouraging to begin developing better personal habits and lifestyles, but once you start noticing your life developing towards a better future, you will never want to stop. You can always develop better ways to do things and it’s important to always try hard towards any personal development goals you have.

Great Travel Quotes

Article by Jeff Ha,ter

I love travel quotes, don’t you? Through the centuries different philosophers, travellers and writers have said things about travel that ring true to all travellers.

Travel quotes tell us why travel is good for us, why travel is good for the world, and sometimes just give us amusing quotes about travel.

There are some quotes about just getting going:

In the 6th century BC, Lao Tzu said, “A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.” Now, maybe he was alluding to life experiences in general, but when you are contemplating a trip, sometimes it seems daunting — too hard to plan. The best way to go about it is just to start. Take one step at a time and soon, you’re on your way.

A more contemporary figure is Mark Twain. He said, “Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

There are travel quotes on why you should travel:

St. Augustine said, “The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.”

Mohammed said, “Don’t tell me how educated you are, tell me how much you have traveled.”

Travel does expand your knowledge of the world. If you’ve been to a foreign country with an unfamiliar culture, it then becomes something familiar and not so much to be feared.

There are quotes on why travel is good for the world:

Aldous Huxley on travel, “To travel is to discover that everyone is wrong about other countries.”

To quote Mark Twain again, “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.”

Travel makes you more tolerant of other customs and cultures. The people you visit learn something about you too, and that may make them more tolerant. Travel gives each of us the opportunity to be ambassadors. Then when you return home, your friends learn from you… and in time, hopefully, we can make the world a better place.

There are quotes on packing:

Antoine St. Exuperey, “He who would travel happily must travel light.”

And contemporary travel guru Rick Steves says, “You’ll never meet a traveler who, after five trips, brags: “Every year I pack heavier.” The measure of a good traveler is how light she travels. You can’t travel heavy, happy, and cheap. Pick two.”

And there are quotes on ways to travel:Lao Tsu again says, “A good traveler has no fixed plans and is not intent on arriving.”

Robert Frost wrote a whole poem about it…

“Two roads diverging in a wood, and I –I took the one less traveled by,And that had made all the difference.”

And we can even use a quote by Yogi Berra, “If you come to a fork in the road, take it.”

Hey, this doesn’t have to be serious. Travel, after all, can be educating and make you and the world a better place, but travel should also be fun. There are many more travel quotes, of course. These are just some of our favorites.

Great Ways To Increase Your Personal Development

Article by Pasquale Hetcher

Personal development centers on activities that improve an individual, whether they are invisible or visible to others. If you wish to begin – or are already on a path – for personal development, you may welcome some suggestions. The tips in the following article will aid your journey to do just that. Your own results are your best feedback. Don’t blame others for the place you are in. Don’t beat yourself up for it either. Accept that your decisions over time have led you to your current position and embrace the fact that every day is a new opportunity to make new decisions that get you closer to where you truly want to be. Do your best to develop your critical skills. It is a good thing to store knowledge, but you should also work on judging this knowledge for what it is worth. Do not read books or watch movies, and adopt the critics’ point of view. You should always develop your own opinion, even on trivial things. Seeking change in your life and now sure where to start? The best tip is to get out of your comfort zone and try something new. Develop new stills, learn something new, take a risk. You can use the past as a stepping stone to new opportunities, learn from what experience has taught you and move forward. Walk the talk of your words. In personal development, there is nothing worse for growth than saying one thing, and doing something else instead. If you pray, don’t just say the words. Reflect on their meaning and follow suit. If you say you are going to do something, then follow through. If you express a belief, then own it with your actions. If things are not working out exactly as you had planned, maybe it’s time for a change. Take control of your future and do something you have always wanted to do. For instance, if you’ve dreamed of being a flight attendant, or a waitress in an expensive restaurant, then do it. Giving yourself the control to make a change will immediately work to improve your attitude, you will be amazed. Your personal development relies on your own personal responsibility. You must assume responsibility of and for yourself. You can not go down a path of blaming everyone else for your mental state or position in life. Sure, sometimes you can blame others, but we can not blame them for how you react to the situation. With personal development make sure that you are not working harder to not do any work at all. This is important because many people try to avoid what seems hard, but in avoiding it they end up doing twice the amount of work or time than if they were to tackle the original problem head on. In order to grow as a person, it is important to know that there is no such thing as luck. People who are successful and happy are this way because they worked hard to become the person they are. Hard work pays off, and by working hard, you can become happier. Break big goals into little ones for personal development success. When you start setting goals, the goals you choose may seem unachievable. Do not let this slow you down! To reach a lofty, ultimate goal, you need stepping stones along the way. Identify smaller achievements that you can and should reach, in pursuit of your greater goal. If you are seeking to increase the positive energy in your life, surround yourself with positive people. Identify the people in your life that bring new and beneficial values to your day. If you surround yourself with positive people, it won’t be very hard at all to adopt their positive outlook for yourself! Your personal development is much more than keeping your mind sharp, but that is one of the areas you should definately work on. A perceptive and quick-witted mind is one way that affects the rest of your body. If your mind is sluggish then your body will be sluggish as well. Take at least one step daily toward achieving your goal. This step can be small, or large, but it is necessary to take a step each day. Doing this keeps you on track, and helps you to remain focused. It also gets the necessary steps accomplished so that your end result comes closer and closer. Keep flashcards in your pocket! Yes, flashcards are an old fashioned approach to learning but they are also a proven approach. Make miniature flashcards in the desired subject matter and pull them out when you are waiting at the doctor’s office, riding the subway or in any other situation where you have time on your hands. Carry yourself with pride. Personal development may be an intimate process, but you will find yourself walking with more confidence if you present a cohesive image to the world around you. Trying on new ways to project your true self allows you to toy with self-expression and builds your self confidence in the process. It’s easy to make these positive changes that will improve your daily life. Start applying these tips today by coming up with a personal plan that works for you. It is always possible to turn your life around, even if you think it might be too late to make a difference. Look at each day as a new opportunity for change and put these tips to work.

Real Estate, a Great Way to Build Wealth

Article by Bruce

Owning real estate is a great way to build wealth. Wealth, or net worth, is basically the difference between your debts and assets. Building wealth over time in a systematic, relatively low-risk fashion is the secret of most successful investors. This is exactly what real estate can offer you, if you purchase carefully. In fact, we believe real estate is the best investment you can make. Given the tax benefits, low risk, and potential for high returns and capital appreciation, real estate is better than stocks, bonds, risky business ventures anything. Plus, its the only investment that provides a place for you to live.

Building equity in a property, or the difference between a property market value and what you owe on the mortgage, is one way you can build wealth as an owner of real estate. By simply making payments on time on your loan, you are reducing the principal, or loan amount of your mortgage. The gradual paying down of the mortgage is also known as amortization of the mortgage.

Building your equity, even with the normal 3 to 10 percent appreciation rates in real estate, may cause your fund to grow faster compared to any investment. Historically it can’t be debated. Contrary to stock market investments, those gains grow free of federal, state, or local income tax. Stock exchange pre-tax returns over the past century have averaged 9 percent to 12 percent, depending upon your information sources. The after-tax stock return of 10 percent is believed to be respectable if you examine the 30-year period, which is comparable to the length of more mortgages. The amount of money that goes toward paying the principal is insignificant at first, as you are paying interest rate on a bigger loan amount. However, you should remember that the larger interest portion also implies a larger tax deduction. Later on, in your retirement years; your needs for any deduction from mortgage interest may decrease. In theory, when the interest component is low or simply gone altogether, the income may also be lower, therefore from a tax point of view, it all works out nicely.

Since real estate commonly appreciates in value gradually, the gap between the money you owe and the property value widens and grows your net worth. Generally, real estates tendency to go up in value may make its purchase seems worthwhile generally after only a couple of years. Put differently, this increase in equity because of an increase in property value can cover all expenses like taxes, insurance, interest, and closing costs related to property ownership.

The ability to leverage money, or make loans against the equity in the property, is another financial benefit of owning real estate. Many investors buy one property after another, using properties already owned as collateral. Others use real estate as collateral for any type of loan, like home equity programs or second mortgages. This may finance education, business start-ups or other types of investments that could build wealth.

Great Expectations: It’s the Secret to Coaching

Article by Gregg Thompson

Great Expectations It’s the secret to coaching.

By Gregg Thompson

The late Boyd Clarke, co-author of The Leader’s Voice, was a kind and generous man who treated everyone he encountered with dignity and respect. He was a wonderful friend. He could also be a royal pain in the butt. Conversations with Boyd were often challenging. When Boyd looked at you, he didn’t see you as you were but rather as you could be. This was quite disconcerting. Boyd had the knack of looking past your imperfections and shortcomings, seeing only a wealth of natural talent and countless opportunities ahead. Boyd had great expectations of others. He was a coach!

Boyd was fond of saying, “Our job is simply to help others become the best version of themselves.” Is this not the quest of all of us who seek to coach?

We do not automatically assume the mantle of coach when we become managers. Management is an assignment; coaching is a choice. In fact, it is two choices. The one we make to be coach-like and the one someone else makes to welcome us into the coaching relationship. Through my work as an executive leadership coach and my research into coaching within organizations, I have discovered that there is no perfect formula, no step-by-step process which results in exceptional coaching.

Three Principles I find, however, that great coaching relationships are based upon the principles Boyd employed in his relationships: appreciation; confrontation; and accountability.

1. Appreciation. Notable thinkers in the arena of Appreciative Inquiry such as David Cooperrider have advanced the theory that organizations change in the direction of inquiry. In other words, rather than focusing on flaws and shortcomings, if you seek out and identify the best traits of an organization, you will propagate more of these traits. So too with individuals. The effective leader coach is skilled at recognizing and promoting the natural talents of others. (In fact, we refer to the person being coached as the Talent to reinforce this idea.) This was one of the first things I noticed about Boyd when we met at graduate school. Many of the talents and abilities he noticed in me caught me off guard -they were things I had either never considered or had intentionally ignored -but I found myself liking the way I looked in his eyes and I wanted to see more of myself this way.

2. Confrontation. Boyd was a warm and gentle person but not one to be taken lightly. In fact, it was often quite painful to be in his presence. He would say anything if he thought it to be true. (How many real truth-tellers do we have today?) Boyd didn’t just see the greatness in others; he confronted them with it. A conversation with Boyd could be quite unnerving. Why? Because you could not unring the bell. The genie was out of the bottle. Once your talents and your potential were named, they were out there, and it was up to you to deal with the information. Aspirations and dreams that seemed too big, that I had worked for years to ignore, were back, and louder than ever, and the only choice I was left with was to acknowledge them, and to act.

3. Accountability. Occasionally I would find myself avoiding Boyd. If I had committed to making some kind of change in my management, my leadership, or my performance and had not followed through, I would usually steer clear of him. Boyd was not the kind of person to let you slide by on anything but your very best. He would hold you accountable, not to his standards but to your own. In my own coaching practice, I try to follow Boyd’s example. As presumptuous as it may sound, I hold the Talent I coach accountable for the commitments they make in our sessions. These are senior, very successful executives who are seeking to significantly increase their leadership effectiveness. This kind of change does not come easy and does not happen without the executive being accountable to someone. That person is frequently their coach.

Coaching is becoming popular because it works. When a person receives high quality, one-on-one coaching, there is often an increase in their performance. Sadly, there is a chronic undersupply of great coaches. We have found that managers who are asked to coach their constituents are often woefully unprepared for this task. They possess all of the basic interpersonal and management skills needed for their supervisory role but find that these are insufficient to facilitate sustained performance improvement in those they lead. Often, they fall back on the comfortable rituals of giving advice and telling war stories -the two practices we find most commonly confused with coaching. It is not because these managers lack the desire or the ability to become forces for positive change in the working lives of the Talent. They are simply in need of a better understanding of what great coaching is, and how they can practice it.

Being a great coach is not like being part of a secret society whose doors are open only to external professionals. Coaching effectiveness is achievable by anyone who has the selfless desire, in the moment of the conversation, to direct all of their abilities and expertise into the service of the Talent. Coaching effectiveness can be developed. I see it every day with my clients. To do so, leaders must move beyond basic supervisory skills and performance management processes into a different way of being. Coaching is not simply about doing more of the same. It is about becoming a person like Boyd, who refused to see others as anything other than their absolute best, confronted them with the greatness he saw in them, and held them accountable for living up to that greatness.

I’ve asked thousands of managers: “What are the qualities and behaviors of those individuals who have the greatest impact on your performance and career?” Responses include: “She saw something in me that I could not yet see in myself,” “He challenged me to step up to a bigger game,” “She held me accountable to a higher standard.” These responses describe perfectly the coach-like leader who really makes a difference in the performance and careers of others.

Are you this kind of a leader? Are you a true leader coach? Do you insist on seeing the best in others? Do you challenge them to live up to their own high standards? Do you hold them accountable for outstanding performance everyday of their working lives? And perhaps the thorniest question of all: If the people in your organization were asked to identify their greatest coach, would your name be on their lips?

Lots Of Great Personal Development Tips All In One Place!

Article by Paster Robishaw

In order to get as much as you can out of your efforts with personal development, you need to take care of your body physically. You can keep your energy level up with regular exercise, a healthy diet, and getting a good night’s sleep. This will give you the energy you need to be successful at your personal development efforts. This sounds like obvious advice, but it’s sometimes hard to put into practice.

Always make your own decisions, so you do not miss any opportunities that life is providing you. Never back down from an opportunity. If you lack knowledge about a specific area, you should still be willing to make the most informed decision you can with the information at hand. When you make the right decisions, you will increase personal development. If you make a mistake, it is okay because you can learn from your mistakes. When you make the incorrect decision, learn from this, and make sure that it never happens again.

Do not be afraid to take risks in the pursuit of happiness. Do not allow yourself to fear failure more than you desire success. Taking risks may take you out of your comfort zone, but it is not irrational to do so. If you take risks, chances are you will be happier.

Failure can be devastating to one’s ego when one is trying to better oneself through personal development. Treat failure as a chance to learn and grow. It is a way to discover what you are good at and what you might struggle with. When you look at it that way, failure should inspire pride in your ability to discover a new piece in your puzzle.

Keep your limitations in mind and do not push too hard to reach your goals, especially when it comes to physical self-improvement. You should always put forth your best effort, but you also need to stay within your limits. Don’t neglect your body when your are striving to meet your goal. Trying to achieve a goal at the expense of your body’s well being is hurting your personal development.

A huge factor in personal development is simply being aware of the things you want to achieve in your life and how you intend on reaching that goal. Choosing long-term goals will help you to gain the right perspective for finding success in life.

Try to always make every day better than the one before. Strive for constant and unceasing improvement. Encourage yourself to top yesterday’s accomplishments and set the stage for tomorrow’s successes.

Keep track of your progress and learn to organize yourself. You may find it easier to achieve your goals if you break them down into smaller components. Keep track of your progress via a planner or use a journal just for your goals in personal development.

Read books that promote your sense of well-being. A religious text might work for some people, while others may prefer a book that contains inspirational quotes. If you have something specific that you can go read when you need to ground yourself, you have a ready-to-use method to always put yourself at ease.

Seek out those with similar positive attitudes. If you are surrounded by people who are negative or who do not believe in you, eventually you might start to believe them. So keeping company with positive people with positive outlooks will benefit you in many ways.

Taking steps to improve your health is a very important part of personal development. In order to maintain a healthy body, you have to stay motivated to practice healthy eating habits and exercise. When it’s important for you to stay healthy and you do so, you will feel better and it can help improve other areas of your life.

You must have a positive attitude in order to grow as an individual. Negative thinking leads to negative results. It is destructive to your personal growth. To reach your goals, keep your eye on the prize and don’t let a negative, defeatist attitude hold you back.

All people are susceptible to food temptations. Just like eating too much cake can negativity affect your health, stress can also have severe detrimental affects on your body’s health. Therefore, it is important not to let insignificant things stress you out.

Choose someone you admire to assist you with your goals and accountability in personal development. All of history’s greats had a great coach behind them. Each person is responsible to show another person the way. How can people achieve their best if this doesn’t happen? Everyone needs a great coach or teacher in their life.

Make the pleasure of your own acquaintance and learn more about yourself as a person. Always treat yourself well and never lie to yourself. Learn to enjoy your own company.
