Lots Of Great Personal Development Tips All In One Place!

Article by Paster Robishaw

In order to get as much as you can out of your efforts with personal development, you need to take care of your body physically. You can keep your energy level up with regular exercise, a healthy diet, and getting a good night’s sleep. This will give you the energy you need to be successful at your personal development efforts. This sounds like obvious advice, but it’s sometimes hard to put into practice.

Always make your own decisions, so you do not miss any opportunities that life is providing you. Never back down from an opportunity. If you lack knowledge about a specific area, you should still be willing to make the most informed decision you can with the information at hand. When you make the right decisions, you will increase personal development. If you make a mistake, it is okay because you can learn from your mistakes. When you make the incorrect decision, learn from this, and make sure that it never happens again.

Do not be afraid to take risks in the pursuit of happiness. Do not allow yourself to fear failure more than you desire success. Taking risks may take you out of your comfort zone, but it is not irrational to do so. If you take risks, chances are you will be happier.

Failure can be devastating to one’s ego when one is trying to better oneself through personal development. Treat failure as a chance to learn and grow. It is a way to discover what you are good at and what you might struggle with. When you look at it that way, failure should inspire pride in your ability to discover a new piece in your puzzle.

Keep your limitations in mind and do not push too hard to reach your goals, especially when it comes to physical self-improvement. You should always put forth your best effort, but you also need to stay within your limits. Don’t neglect your body when your are striving to meet your goal. Trying to achieve a goal at the expense of your body’s well being is hurting your personal development.

A huge factor in personal development is simply being aware of the things you want to achieve in your life and how you intend on reaching that goal. Choosing long-term goals will help you to gain the right perspective for finding success in life.

Try to always make every day better than the one before. Strive for constant and unceasing improvement. Encourage yourself to top yesterday’s accomplishments and set the stage for tomorrow’s successes.

Keep track of your progress and learn to organize yourself. You may find it easier to achieve your goals if you break them down into smaller components. Keep track of your progress via a planner or use a journal just for your goals in personal development.

Read books that promote your sense of well-being. A religious text might work for some people, while others may prefer a book that contains inspirational quotes. If you have something specific that you can go read when you need to ground yourself, you have a ready-to-use method to always put yourself at ease.

Seek out those with similar positive attitudes. If you are surrounded by people who are negative or who do not believe in you, eventually you might start to believe them. So keeping company with positive people with positive outlooks will benefit you in many ways.

Taking steps to improve your health is a very important part of personal development. In order to maintain a healthy body, you have to stay motivated to practice healthy eating habits and exercise. When it’s important for you to stay healthy and you do so, you will feel better and it can help improve other areas of your life.

You must have a positive attitude in order to grow as an individual. Negative thinking leads to negative results. It is destructive to your personal growth. To reach your goals, keep your eye on the prize and don’t let a negative, defeatist attitude hold you back.

All people are susceptible to food temptations. Just like eating too much cake can negativity affect your health, stress can also have severe detrimental affects on your body’s health. Therefore, it is important not to let insignificant things stress you out.

Choose someone you admire to assist you with your goals and accountability in personal development. All of history’s greats had a great coach behind them. Each person is responsible to show another person the way. How can people achieve their best if this doesn’t happen? Everyone needs a great coach or teacher in their life.

Make the pleasure of your own acquaintance and learn more about yourself as a person. Always treat yourself well and never lie to yourself. Learn to enjoy your own company.

Personal Development – Creating a Better You

Article by Michael Jeffreys

People have an immense capacity for learning. Unfortunately, most people do not utilize the overwhelming portion of this learning potential. At some point, many of us feel we have reached a plateau of stagnation. Whether it is the executive who is beginning to feel like he is stuck in a rut or the home maker with the picture perfect family who is beginning to wonder if this is all there is in life, the quest for personal development is in us all.How Personal Development Affects All Facets of our LivesMany people suffer from the misconception that personal development or self improvement, involves building better self esteem and not a whole lot more. There is also a tendency to disassociate personal development from an individual’s personal life. For instance, we assume that building on self worth, dealing with conflicts in relationships, enhancing our creative side are all “personal” in nature and have no bearing on our work. Nothing could be farther from the truth. A good personal development program teaches skills related to listening, learning, and growing that are just as relevant in the workplace as they are at home or in the company of friends. The Best Time for Personal Development is Right Now!Sadly, most people wait until things are at their absolute worst before considering a personal development program. This is unfortunate because a personal development program is hardly an instant remedy or magic cure for all that ails you. It is an ongoing process that continues to teach and equip you with skills necessary for dealing with conflicting situations. Take for instance, the sedentary executive who has followed a none-too-healthy lifestyle and lives and breathes his work. One day, he notices an unfamiliar tightening in his chest and freaks out so bad he checks himself into the nearest medical facility for a battery of expensive tests. How much easier would it have been to have followed and maintained a healthy lifestyle program to avoid a health scare in the first place? Similarly, a personal development program gives you the skills necessary for a balanced life and puts you on the path to a more rounded “healthier” you.Seminars for Personal DevelopmentUnfortunately, there has, in recent years, been an unprecedented proliferation of personal development programs in the marketplace. Many of these are devised by self-styled “self improvement gurus” who see an immense opportunity to profit from the average persons eagerness to better themselves from the inside. This is reflected in the content of these half baked personal development programs they enthusiastically promote. Whether you prefer to do a home study course or watch tapes, be sure to find a personal development program that truly helps unleash your inner potential. Seminars, whether you attend a professional speaking presentation, or watch at your convenience on tape or DVD, can be a powerful motivator and can inspire and challenge you to attain newer and ever increasing personal levels.

“Personal Development” – Growing Your Business in Spite of Your Mind.

Article by Eyan Edwards

In the world of Personal Development you have 2 types of people. One type of person is the individual who lives and dies by the sword of personal development, which has the ability to cut through any problem at any time, and in any situation. The second person is the individual who is not quite sold on the fact that developing personally and acting in spite of their mind are actually the keys to changing their results, changing their life, and creating a new, secure future.

The problem I see in today’s society is that too many people are attached to the results or the fruits that they want to bare when they have no idea what it actually takes to create success. Society depicts the lives of celebrities, lifestyle, riches, and fame as this glamorous rendition that can be created through 1 song or 1 week of marketing. Let’s get real. Creating success is a result of your daily action.

However, it only starts by taking action, for taking action on the wrong knowledge equals miserable failure. But, before you can achieve the success that you want for yourself, 9 times out of 10 you are going to experience miserable failure.

There is a way to avoid this and that is personal development. Personal development will allow you to take control of your mind and dictate your results.

Why is this important/

Your mind will either keep you in the game or take you out of the game. Could you imagine Oprah becoming who she is today if she didn’t develop personally and thought she was going to fail?

Do you have any idea the pressure that comes with making some of the decisions she has to make?

You have to have had to develop a certain personality that allows you to accept that kind of social status.

Taking back to the world of business, sales and marketing, personal development takes equal effort to master.

You have to be able to keep going, after you have gotten rejected. That’s called the personal development of mastering your mind. When your mind wants to give up, you have to keep going. When you mind wants to slow down, you speed up. Let you mind know that you have developed a tolerance to it’s manipulating habits. Take control of your personality and develop new habits that will set you on a winning path every day.

Some things to do:1.Take at least 30 minutes to inquire on some kind of Personal Development training every day.2.Meditate or Sit in silence for at least 30 minutes each day. Preferably 30 minutes in the morning & 30 minutes in the evening. But 30 minutes is a good place to start.3.Talk to yourself. You will be surprised, just how many answers you can find on your own. I think most times people fail when they require to much information before they get started. With all the ads and opinions out there, really you just have to make a decision and go for it.4.Set an action plan.5.Take massive action on your own action plan.

As you develop personally and start to take control of your own mind, you will start to see that life will become a little easier for you. Everyday your tasks will get a little bit easier. You can become more creative because you have detached yourself from your mind, which allows you not to fear failure.

Not fearing failure will allow you to try things that other people will not. The key to personal development is just disconnect from your mind and go all out.

The Secret to Your Personal Development Enclosed…

Article by Toby Layla

The subject of personal development is often missed. The skills and traits that go along with Personal Development are commonly overlooked by new Network Marketers or those Home Based Business owners that are completely intoxicated by money.

It’s funny… if you were to line up 10 of the Top Money Earners within the MLM industry and ask them to speak freely on the most important skills to master for 2 minutes… you would consistently hear the words Personal Development and Training.

How do you measure your own personal success?

Are you measuring your happiness by:

– The car you drive.- The house you live in.- The number of new reps you sign up each day.- The amount of leads you were able to generate.- The totals in your bank account.

These are the most common ways that people mistakenly measure their success and happiness in the MLM Industry.

Of course these factors would please you. However, if you are using these environmental factors to measure your success and happiness… what happens if the external environment changes?

If you go a day and only created 5 leads, or signed up 1 rep instead of 5… if your car gets repossessed, and the numbers in your bank account start to plummet…suddenly there goes your happiness.

If your joy and happiness is dictated by your external environment, you should know it’s not sustainable. To aquire Personal Development skills means to achieve inner contentment and peace, and to have your joy and happiness independent of the outer circumstances.

The Network Marketing business is not easy, it is simple, but not easy. There will be ups and there will be downs, and more downs than ups until you get there… but to achieve success that will be sustainable you must undergo Personal Development training.

Your Personal Development Plan doesn’t have to involve a shrink or lengthy retreat to the Buddhist temples. The fantastic thing about the Network Marketing industry is those that have sustained inner contentment and success are happy to share.

– Personal Development Books- With CD’s your Car can become a Self-Help University on Wheels- Seminars & Webinars- Ipods allow you to have your mentors voice in your ear at all times- Daily NewslettersDo not come from the mindset that Personal Development is not going to increase your paycheck. How to Develop a Personal Development Plan: 10 Easy Steps

Article by Suzanne Glover

When you set out to develop a personal development plan, you want to take a few factors into consideration. Here are ten easy steps that give you a good start:

STEP ONE – TAKE INVENTORY OF YOUR LIFE NOW: First thing to do when setting out to make change is to evaluate where you are right now. So, for at least one week (but doing it for two weeks would be better), notice how and where you spend your time. Also, notice if things take longer than you “think” they should take you. Don’t place any judgment on how and where you spend time, just notice. Be sure to include weekends so you have a variety between work days and non-work days. Keep this step simple. Don’t try to change anything. Just notice your time commitments.

STEP TWO – CATEGORIZE HOW YOU SPEND YOUR TIME: Now let’s categorize each area of your life where time is currently spent. A personal development plan sample that I like has the following categories:

1. Dreams2. Career/Financial3. Purpose/Goals4. Love/Family5. Health

STEP THREE – DREAM ABOUT YOUR PERFECT LIFE: Give yourself permission to take a few moments to dream about your perfect life. While this is only imagination, this exercise opens a portal of inner knowledge that can lead you to your perfect life. Don’t judge any of your dreams. These are your true feelings and ones that will guide you in your own proper direction.STEP FOUR – MATCH UP YOUR IDEAL LIFE WITH YOUR CURRENT LIFE: After visualizing where you would like to take your life, compare it with your current life. Be prepared for this step to cause some pain if there is a big difference between the two. But, this step gives you a “starting point” and an “ending point,” both of which are necessary to set out plans to get from one to the other.

STEP FIVE – ASK, “WHAT SMALL CHANGE CAN I MAKE NOW THAT WILL ALTER MY OVERALL LIFE TRAJECTORY?” Many times making a small change in your current circumstances has stronger ramifications as your life unfolds because it changes your focus. For example, if you decide to take a 15 minute daily walk just to “percolate” how to take the next step for your life, this small action will move your current mindset from “I’m stuck now” to “What’s next and how do I get there?” Over time, this will gain momentum as your trajectory of life broadens because your “rocket” is now pointed to a new planet – the planet of hope!

STEP SIX – FIND A GOOD PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN TEMPLATE FOR DETAILED PLANNING: There are many personal development plan samples, examples and templates available today. Look for one that keeps it simple because one of the things I have found that is a hinderance when people develop a personal development plan is that they make it too complicated – which, of course, leads to overwhelm and failure.

STEP SEVEN – GET PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN COACHING: When you are planning out a major event such as your life, it’s a good time to get an objective view of yourself, which is one of the best things about using a coach. Strategizing with someone in this manner can rapidly increase your success rate when you want to develop a personal development plan. Often times, a coach will also have a good example personal development plan.

STEP EIGHT – GIVE YOURSELF TIME TO MAKE THE CHANGES: Often times what stops people from success when they develop a personal development plan is underestimating the time it takes to set goals and make changes. When this happens, it’s easy to get discouraged and give up. So, one of the best things you can do is to give yourself plenty of time to make change.

STEP NINE – VISUALIZE YOUR DESIRED RESULTS: Visualization is very powerful, but there is one important component to doing visualization that many people miss. That component is to actually feel the scenario that you are visualizing. This one portion makes the difference between success and failure.

STEP TEN – HAVE FUN: Many times we get overly serious when trying to make changes in our lives. This serious point of view takes all the joy out of the endeavor and joy is also a critical factor when seeking goal achievement.

By using these ten steps when you start to develop a personal development plan, you are setting yourself up for success, one step at a time.

Dangerous Trends in Personal Development

Article by TheEmotionMachine

There is an ongoing trend in personal development that seems to ignore the consequences of reality and instead focus on wishful-thinking and excessive optimism. Although I am certainly not the first to criticize works like “What The Bleep Do We Know?,” “The Secret,” or “The Law of Attraction” – I believe there is real damage being done by fostering these unhealthy beliefs, and people who know better have a duty to dispel these myths.

I hate to sound a bit cynical this morning, but there have been some ongoing trends within the personal development community that really rub me the wrong way.

“Personal Development” suffers enough negative connotations as it is, and it only exacerbates the problem when other so-called “experts” and “gurus” continue to spread dangerous lies and superstitions.

The main culprit: The observer effect.

In essence, “documentaries” like What The Bleep Do We Know? have described the observer effect (in quantum physics) as evidence that our minds are the sole creators of reality.

Now, I’m no physicist (and neither are most of the people in the personal development community who cite this research), but the observer effect basically describes how we can’t observe an electron without changing it’s behavior.

However, it has nothing to do with consciousness.

What The Bleep Do We Know? claims this is an effect of consciousness on reality, but this isn’t how most physicists explain it. In fact, the reason an electron is difficult to observe is because it needs to interact with a photon in order for it to be detected. A photon is nothing more than a particle of light, and light is necessary in order to detect the positioning of an electron. It has nothing to do with consciousness in-and-of-itself.

According to Wikipedia:

“Physicists like David Albert, who appear in the film, have accused the filmmakers of selectively editing his interview to make it appear that he endorses the film’s thesis that quantum mechanics is linked with consciousness.”And as if that wasn’t disingenuous enough, other personal development “experts” have taken this documentary and have wrongly applied it to their own beliefs. Followers of The Secret and The Law of Attraction have taken this misinterpreted evidence to suggest that our minds are all-powerful creators of the reality.

They believe if we can imagine it, and we can desire it, then we can achieve it. Period. Nothing can stand in our way but our own minds.

The real danger of these beliefs.

When people fully adhere to the teachings of something like The Secret, they often fail to acknowledge the realities that exist outside of their minds.

James Arthur Ray, a popular affiliate of The Secret and The Law of Attraction, had a “Spiritual Warrior” retreat in 2009. He had the participants go through very physically demanding tasks such as fasting for over 36 hours and then cramming the 60 participants into a sweat lodge.

Although participants had a big breakfast before the sweat lodge, one site owner reported that participants had went 2 days without water leading up to the event. The goal was to go on a “vision quest” that would teach participants to overcome their fear of death.

The results were much worse.

Ray truly believed that the power of thought and intention would be strong enough to overcome these physical obstacles. So long as he pushed the possibility of anyone getting hurt out of his mind, it would come true. He was wrong.

Instead, two participants died before the exercise was over. Another 18 were hospitalized due to various burns, breathing problems, and dehydration. Another participant died after being comatose for a week due to the event.

Ray was finally convicted earlier this year for 3 cases of neglected homicide.

An alternative approach to personal development – acknowledging reality.

Listen. I’m a big advocate of taking responsibility for your life. But I also acknowledge that sometimes bad things happen to good people for no good reason. This is because our mind – however positive our thoughts and noble our intentions – is not the only thing that exists in this world.

Instead, there is a whole other reality that exists outside of our minds that affects our lives. And sometimes that reality can be incredibly cruel, harsh, and impersonal.

It’s important to acknowledge this reality for several reasons:

1. We don’t have to blame ourselves for everything bad that happens in our lives.2. By accepting these other facets of reality, we can better respond to them.

I know this isn’t the most positive and optimistic thing you want to hear – but it’s true. And accepting reality is more beneficial in the long-term than ignoring it.

I truly believe that. I’ve been hurt by wishful thinking before, and I’ve become happier and better off once I dimmed my optimism and became a little more practical.

Personal development fueled by science, reason, and honest self-analysis.

I think if the term “personal development” is going to restore any of the integrity it once had, then individuals within the community need to make an earnest effort to distinguish truth from fiction. And there are resources and tools out there to help us do this (that is one of the primary reasons I write on this blog).

To start, paying attention to scientific research in psychology and neuroscience is a good way to stay privy to many of the biases and imperfections that riddle our minds (and there are a lot of them, believe me).

I’ve written before about some of these biases and how they can negatively influence our thoughts and decision-making – these are the kinds of findings we should try to be more mindful of (not pseudo-scientific bastardizations of quantum mechanics).

If you have a choice, I say go with psychotherapies that are supported by scientific research over psychotherapies that depend more on hearsay and anecdotal evidence. Modern therapeutic techniques like Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness Meditation, and Positive Psychology all have positive track-records in being able to treat various mental ailments. Look into these therapies before seeking alternatives (in fact, a lot of alternative therapies that get recognition today – like Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and acupuncture – can usually be attributed to the placebo effect).

But, above all else, the most important thing is that we remain honest with ourselves. Life isn’t always pleasant or forgiving, but trying to ignore these aspects of reality won’t make them go away. Sometimes we have to grit our teeth and bear it – because the more we ignore it, the harder reality is going to bite back in the end.

Taking a more pragmatic and modest approach to personal development (one fueled by science, reason, and honest self-analysis) is a trend I would like to see more of in the future.

Questions

Have you ever seen What The Bleep Do We Know? or read The Secret or The Law of Attraction? How did these affect your personal development – was it negative or positive? (try to be specific)What do you think about more scientifically-backed approaches to personal development (like Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness Meditation, and Positive Psychology)? What are some trends in personal development that worry you?
