Happiness in an instant! The Secret and Happiness.

Article by Annet van Dorsser MSc

Most of you have probably heard of the movie “The Secret” or “The Law of Attraction”. All over the world people are talking about it. Is this a new hype that will eventually disappear? Or is there an universal truth hidden in this information? And what does it have to do with being happy?

Good questions. Many different answers. And…. That is exactly what “The Secret” is all about. What you see, is what you get! Do you believe in “The Secret”, than it will work out great for you. If you don’t believe it, don’t worry, it won’t work for you. This is “The Secret” or “Law of attraction”, in action. You get, what you expect.

Personally I always start out believing new things, as long as they sound reasonable. This is a choice! From there on I try them out and draw my own conclusions. And guess what…. of course it works with this attitude. It works for health, abundance and… happiness.

In fact there is nothing new about “The Law of Attraction”. Many philosophers wrote great books about it: Charles F. Haanel, David Cameron Gikandi, Napoleon Hill, Ralph Waldo Trine and others. Deepak Chopra talks about it in “The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success”. It’s a truth known for centuries, “sold” now under a new great name.

If you go to the basis of this law, it becomes clear that we all consciously or subconsciously choose our own way of looking at everything that happens in our lives. If we decide to be happy, happy events will follow or at least we will experience them happily. One day I experienced this very clearly. I was driving my car and choose to be happy. Guess what? Within 30 seconds I ended up in a traffic jam and had the feeling “Great, a traffic jam!” Nobody would react this way, because we are all brought up to believe that a traffic jam is bad. But with happy feelings, I experienced it so differently. I was happy and stayed happy, no matter what.

Warren Buffett’s View On Success And Happiness

Article by Steve Scott

Starting up your own business? Running your own business? In collaborating with hundred’s of business owners I know that every one of them had a vision.

When you have that vision or entrepreneurial seizure, you dream of creating a business to help you to a life of greater success and happiness. But, most of us do not have a clear idea of what success and happiness truly is for us.

Warren Buffett, the famous investor, and according to most sources, the second richest man in the United States, was meeting with graduate business students from Rice University in his offices in Omaha.

The students wanted to know how he defined business success. He gave them an answer they didn’t expect and that several students found life-changing. He stated that unconditional love was more valuable than any amount of wealth.

Each year he hosts sessions with college students that are closed to the media. The students from Rice were not only impressed with his wisdom but found him down to earth. He was warm. He was affable. He was himself. Part of business success is being able to express yourself and be yourself in the business you choose.

Too often I have observed small business owners whose business suffers greatly because they have lost their ability to relate to others as a human being. They relate to others as it pertains to business and not much more.

One of the students asked Mr. Buffett about the correlation between wealth and happiness and how he has kept his billions from weighing him down.

He told them that success is getting what you want. And, that happiness is wanting what you get.

He elaborated some more by telling them to just be happy with what you have, and don’t let it get to you.

Fascinating! There is great depth in what he said. You are out there creating your own business. But are you successful in getting what you want? If the answer is yes, that is good. But, as we can see through Warren Buffett’s eyes, success doesn’t mean happiness. Happiness is, truly wanting what you get.

How often have you seen someone get what they say they want and they are still unhappy? I have seen that quite often. Mr. Buffett also offered one other piece of advice to the students. Surround yourself with people who love you, and to give love in return.

Yes, he gave some investment advice. But, the investment advice which had the greatest impact on the students had to do with others, love, success and happiness. Whether you are starting up your own business or running your own business take a moment to reflect on what success is for you and if you will be happy when you attain it.

After all, life isn’t a practice session. If what you are doing isn’t going to bring you the success you want or the happiness you desire then you should be doing something else. Just ask Warren Buffett.

How to Find Happiness in Our Lives

Article by Joshua Nyamache.

What is happiness? If you were to ask your friends this question today I am absolutely sure you will end up with many answers. And, if I were the one to answer it, then I will answer it from my experience. My practical experience I have gained all along is that I derive true happiness the moment I better someone’s life. Do you agree with this?

Everyone is craving for happiness but it saddens that most people have a hard time of finding it. There are many ways to make someone’s life better. This someone could be your friends or people you hardly know of. All what matters is how you have changed their lives. People will gravitate to you if you change their lives. By doing this you make connections (you acquire friendships.) The more lives you better the happier you’re.

The happy faces you see around you are always grateful. These people are grateful for the people and good things in their lives. Being grateful for things and people in your life derives you happiness. One way to help you get closer to happiness is to work towards closer relationships with your friends and family. Steer clear of negative people who only bring you down.

Remember to be thankful for the things you have: your relationships, your career and your friends. Being thankful for what you have can go a long way towards helping you find happiness. Happy people tend to have a sense of purpose and know exactly how they want their life to be. By the way, what’s your purpose? If you know your purpose, are you pursuing it? If yes, then that is happiness.

Sign up for a joke of the day service and have jokes sent to you via email. Laughter really is the best medicine; it causes the release of endorphins which give you a sense of well being. Optimism isn’t something that all of us naturally have, but as you’ve probably noticed, people who are happy tend to be optimistic.

Try to look for the silver lining in every cloud and make an effort to see the brighter side of everything which can make the impossible to be the possible rather than dwelling on the negative look for solutions which make the possible to be impossible.

Appreciation And Happiness

Article by Allan R Baylis

At the end of the day life is about the pursuit of happiness. Happiness for many is hard to define. When you ask others to define happiness there are countless opinions. How would you define happiness?

Some believe happiness is good health. They believe if you have your health you have everything! I ask you do you know someone in perfect health who is unhappy. Some people believe money will buy happiness. There is a long history of many problems that the wealthiest have endured. I’ve found that generally speaking kids from poor countries are happier than those from more affluent countries.

In a poor town in Mexico you watch kids without shoes play with stones and they laugh. In North America many unhappy kids threaten suicide if they don’t get another video game like their friends just bought. There are those who believe happiness is power yet many in power suffer miserably. Happiness it seems is hard to define.

I can best describe my definition of happiness based on an experience I had many years ago. I was on the West Coast speaking at a convention to about 1,500 people. My presentation was 6 hours with an hour break for lunch along with the usual breaks in the morning and afternoon.

I’ve always enjoyed the buzz as an audience files into a room. One moment the room is empty and then almost instantly it is full. I love to meet and mingle up to the last moment before I am introduced. It can drive the organizers crazy. They are usually all wound up at these events. They get so wound up that you’d think they were doing the presentation. Just before the meeting started I noticed a middle aged man walk into the room. I could see that he was blind. I must tell you that I’ve seen many tough circumstances but for me losing sight was at the top of my list.

The presentation started and as I’m speaking I’m moving around the stage scanning people in the audience, making eye contact, one person at a time. Anyone who has attended one of my seminars will tell you that I love telling jokes. I have found that humour can relieve tension and drive home key points. This makes it easier for people to remember key points and more fun to attend. I believe that good, clean humour is essential to an effective presentation. Laughing and learning, like attitudes and skills work best when served together.

As I told some of these stories and jokes I could see that the blind fellow was having a great time. He laughed so hard I thought he’d surely fall out of his chair. Later I met with him briefly at the break. I was taken back by his enthusiasm and obvious sense of humour.

At our lunch break that day one of the organizers asked me if I wanted to join the group, the next day at a local waterslide park. I love waterslides and with a free day between travels I enthusiastically agreed to go.

The next day was a beautiful one at the Waterslide Park. I saw many of those from my session the day before. This waterslide had five slides of varying degrees of difficulty. There was one particular slide which was higher and more twisted than the rest. It shot up into the sky so high that in the bright sunshine it was hard to see the platform at the top. Needless to say, it looked like a long, frightful climb and an even more dangerous descent. I sat there, psyching myself up preparing myself to go down this slide.

Moments later as I stared at this monstrous slide, I noticed the blind man with that smile on his face. He was grabbing onto the rail about to climb the ride. My heart began to race and I didn’t know what to do. Should I help him or at least warn him I thought. I didn’t want to offend him. Before I knew it he began to climb, one step at a time. I watched painfully each and every step he took up the ladder. He climbed higher and higher eventually fading out of sight. When I could no longer see him I walked over to the slide. Once there I waited anxiously at the bottom hoping to see that he’d survived the ride down.

Moments that seemed like an eternity passed until finally he came crashing down, laughing aloud as he was thrown into the turbulent water. I was really impressed and wanted to tell him so. This guy was obviously a positive force. What courage I thought! I told him how much I admired his courage, to climb all those stairs and come down the toughest slide in the park.

He turned my way, smiled and said, “Son, come with me. I want to show you something.” We climbed back up the ladder to the top of the slide. As we waited in line he commented how the sun felt great on his face? “What a beautiful day.” he said. When we reached the slide he said, “For this ride, I want you to close your eyes all the way down.” I did so and what a rush I experienced. You should try it sometime. When we reached the bottom he laughed and said, “Its more fun with your eyes closed isn’t it?” He was right. Suddenly it hit me why he was so happy. He appreciated what he had and was not focused on what he didn’t have. In your pursuit of happiness remember to take some time each day to focus on what you have and appreciate it. I’ll see you in my next article.

Visualization as a Key to Happiness

Article by Matthew Roberts

Visualization is an essential tool used by millions of successful businessmen and professionals all over the world to help them achieve their goals. Visualization however cannot only bring success to your business but happiness to your life, as well.

Learn How to Visualize Your HappinessUsing visualization to help you gain happiness is a gradual process, so don’t expect to learn it overnight. Be patient and don’t skip to the next step if you haven’t mastered the previous one.

What is Happiness to You?Ask yourself this question first and be honest with your answer. What is happiness to you? Material and external happiness is easy to achieve once you’ve developed a plan, but you might realize later on these things don’t make you truly happy.

Happiness comes from within. Genuine happiness is born from intrinsic goals, and it’s important that you determine those first before trying to visualize your future happiness.

What is the Perfect Symbol or Image for Your Happiness? Now that you know what your goals are, it’s time to choose the best image or symbol to reflect these goals.

What – What are those goals? What type of event, situation, or scene would best reflect those goals?

Who – Determine the persons integral to the completion of your goals; if these people aren’t present, your goals wouldn’t mean as much to you.

Where – It doesn’t have to be any place exotic or extravagant, but something that will mean a lot to you and tell you in an instant that your dreams have come true.

When – Your goals must be time-bound. Ask yourself for the ideal time to complete your goals.

Once you’ve determined all those key elements, the next thing to do is to put all those elements together into one image or symbol. Make this as detailed as possible until it resembles a vivid Technicolor scene. Commit the scene to memory. Memorize each and every pixel until you can call the image to mind with effortless ease.

Determining the HowVisualizing your happiness is like going on a race. The previous step required you to imagine what it would look like to get to the finish line. This time, you need to determine what you’ll do DURING the race in order to get to the finish line. Don’t let present limitations confine your imagination. Determine what you have to do to accomplish your goals and commit them to memory as well.

It’s Time for Self-AffirmationsYou now have all the required elements for this visualization exercise to work. The last thing to do is making yourself believe that it can and will happen for you.

Every time you wake up and before you go to sleep, visualize the perfect scene reflecting your goals. Then tell yourself with utmost confidence that you have all what it takes to do it. You can face yourself in the mirror if it helps.

When you do this regularly, your brain will get used to what it’s hearing from you until it’s convinced that you’re virtually destined to make your dreams come true.

Mastering your visualization skills will take time, so be patient if you find it difficult picturing your future happiness. Keep practicing, however, as the rewards you’ll gain will certainly be beyond your wildest imaginations. Dream big and dream happily!

Find Courage Yourself to Deal With Change and Choose Happiness

Article by Dr Barnsley Brown

How Do I Change My Life?

Are you happy? Please note that I’m not asking if you FEEL happy. I’m asking if you ARE happy. Happiness does not have to be a fleeting emotion that we feel when everything’s coming up roses. Instead, it is something you can have, right now, no matter what’s going on in your life.

Happiness is a founding value of our culture. Remember that oft-quoted phrase in the Declaration of Independence? Our founding fathers asserted we have the right to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” However, so often we let life carry us along without examining whether or not we are truly happy, healthy, and ENJOYING the way we are living! We can be so involved in survival that we forget about revival–about recreating our lives in a way that will fulfill us.

It takes courage to look at your life honestly and to (re)evaluate it, making necessary changes for your health and happiness. Four years ago, I nearly died of an anaphylactic reaction and spent a long week in the hospital followed by several months of recovery time; this experience was a huge turning point for me. I felt that I’d been given the opportunity to “hang out” a little longer on this earth to accomplish my mission. As a result, I drastically changed my diet, my attitude, my friends, my family dynamic, and even my marital status. That life-threatening experience forced me to look at what I needed to release and reshape in my life to be truly happy and fulfilled.

Yes, changing your life sometimes feels frightening, sometimes like an adventure. You can feel thrilled about exploring a new planet while also wondering if your oxygen supply will hold out. Yet we can muster up the courage to change. As Martin Luther King, Jr. affirmed,?Forces that threaten to negate life must be challenged by courage, which is the power of life to affirm itself in spite of life?s ambiguities. This requires the exercise of a creative will that enables us to hew out a stone of hope from a mountain of despair.?

I invite you to try these methods of exercising your creative will with courage:

* Affirm aloud,?I, (your name!), choose love instead of fear. The Universe supports me in living a happy, blessed life.?? Examine what causes you pain or discomfort in your life and admit how you may be addicted to that pain. What kind of benefit are you getting by your addiction to that pain? For example, if you’ve pushed yourself until you are sick, what do you get by being sick? Do you get to rest? Do you enjoy more attention from others? How could you get those benefits WITHOUT having to be in pain?

* Make healthier, life-affirming, self-affirming choices today. Could you meditate? Could you exercise and get those feel-good endorphins circulating through your body? Could you have lunch with a dear friend? Could you join a support group for whatever you are going through? Show the Universe and the “scaredy cat” part of yourself that you are choosing courage and love over fear and pain.

* Write a gratitude list and add to it daily, including even little things. A conscious, daily practice of gratitude drowns despair! My favorite time to do this is at night when I take a shower before bed. I simply count my blessings and imagine all the negativity, irritations, and annoyances of the day going down the drain, along with anything I’m holding against someone else. Make your gratitude and forgiveness time a part of your regular hygiene routine and you’ll find yourself not only happier, but also joyful. Just like brushing your teeth, washing and combing your hair, and moisturizing your body, this process is your spiritual hygiene/exfoliation process in which you shed that which you don’t need and nourish that which makes you radiant. (By the way, enjoy people wondering what you’re doing that makes you so radiant! It’s good for them!)

Courage isn’t something that is given to us overnight. It’s a quality we cultivate regularly in the face of problems, hardships, disappointments, and loss. Courage brings us happiness because it creates happiness within ourselves. Instead of running from our problems, we need to EMBRACE them (yes, you heard that right), move through them, and vanquish them. It IS possible and you CAN do it.

When you put a deposit of courage in our integrity bank account, you emerge a happier, healthier person with the strength of character and vision to make our life what you want and deserve it to be. Remember, you are the person in your life who deserves happiness the most. So go on… Enough talk. Now make it happen!

The Secret of Success and Happiness

Article by Joshua Nyamache.

Let’s face it that every person has his own secret of success. By the way, what is your definition of success? There isn’t a generally accepted meaning of the term because each person puts his own personal spin on what it means.

This isn’t really surprising because every person is unique in how he thinks and what his goals in life are. In fact, one defines it from his achievements of goals. Before you can achieve goals, you should decide on what your definition of success is.

Some people feel that to be successful means you are happy. Happiness is a very individual thing. What makes one person happy may not even be of interest to another person. It is up to you to find out what truly makes you happy.

Some people will quickly say that having a large amount of money will make them happy. Others say that happiness is helping people to be their best they can be in life while others say that happiness is much simpler than that. Neither answer is right or wrong. It is up to the individual because the secret of success and happiness is a personal matter just like the definition of success.

Success might be a goal for your business life and career or it might be something you strive for in your personal life. Personally, my vision and secret of success is the combination of the two. I think success means much more than having a huge bank account.

Although financial security is a big part of being successful, I think it takes much more than that to have a happy life. There are plenty of other riches to be had besides money like your family and friends. Love and helping others to be their best they can are very important secrets of success and components to living a happy life.

You should get a clear image of what success is before you attempt to achieve it or else you won’t have a clear cut goal to shoot for. If you don’t know where you are going you will have a hard time getting there.

If you know exactly what you want in your life and also know exactly what makes you happy, then you have found your personal definition of success. By this you will have an easier time when attaining your goal.

You are a unique individual and your secret of success is unique also. Someone else might not agree with your ideas for happiness and success but don’t let that bother you. You have only one life under the sun and you should live to its full. Go for it, don’t hesitate!
